PACIFIC ROSE ALGAE SILK SCARF

ANCIENT PINK

Of over 7,000 types of red algae, Pacific rose algae  - found from B.C. down to Baja - stands out in the crowd. Whether seen swaying in the nearshore surge underwater, holding fast to the rocky bottom, or found washed ashore in the tangled wrack on the beach, this seaweed reveals its array of colors - from magenta, to rose, to peachy green - according to its environment.  Its color derives from a pigment which reflects red light and absorbs blue light, allowing it to photosynthesize in deeper water than green algae. Let this unique and ancient pink become your new favorite color!

This 20"x70" scarf is printed on 100% silk charmeuse and has a delicate hand-rolled hem.

STATUS

Pacific rose algae is not considered threatened or endangered, but it could use some more love in the form of its own Wikipedia page, which is currently lacking!
