FIERCE GRACE

This powerful trio of birds lead very different lives, but all find their home on the Big Sur Coast.  No bird soars as high (up to 15,000 feet), or in such beautiful silence as the California condor, whose 10-foot wingspan makes it the largest bird on the continent. Endangered, we have so much to learn from this incredibly ELEGANT and COMPLEX animal who is also humbly adapted to consume carrion, and whose SENSITIVE face changes color according to its emotion. Brown pelican, once endangered too, has made a RESILIENT comeback. Where condor rules the upper altitudes, pelican belongs to the sea, cruising in POIGNANT formation along the crests of incoming swell, and diving deep as they plunge for fish from the sky. Red-shouldered hawks are forest raptors, STEALTHY hunters, and FIERCE protectors of their territory. This pattern aims to embody the unique and extreme GRACE each bird imparts to the sky, the sea, the redwood canopy... This pattern was originally designed to support relief for the SOBERANES FIRE, which burned over 90,000 acres of wilderness in the Santa Lucia Mountains of Big Sur in 2016.
